Summary

Set up, maintain, adjust, and operate the machines in RDA to produce wire to meet Manufacturing Order (MO) requirements following the Quality Management System (QMS)

 Supervisory Responsibilities: none

 Essential Duties, Responsibilities, & Authorities

  • Set up and operate rolling/drawing machines, spooling lines, and Helicord
  • Operate annealer as required per MOs
  • Maintain and operate resistance butt weld machine
  • Monitor and maintain exceptional wire surface conditions as specified in Manufacturing Orders (MOs) and QMS documents
  • Transfer information to the next operator during shift changes
  • Properly identify and stage scrap materials
  • Receive/transfer material in 4th shift
  • Create I.D. tags, labels, and bar codes for inventory
  • Properly and accurately document processing information according to QMS guidelines
  • Follow written work instructions outlined on work orders and QMS documents
  • Meet or exceed production standards on manufacturing orders (MOs)
  • Properly allocate direct and indirect times
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Follow all requirements of the Polymet employee handbook and safety policy
  • Adhere to department schedule and work OT as needed to meet scheduled dates
  • Understand and follow all Polymet Quality Management System (QMS) documents
  • Assist with annual inventory counts

 Minimum:

  • Mechanical aptitude
  • 1-2 years machine operating experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to make decisions and problem solve/troubleshoot independently

Preferred:

  • 3-5 years machine operating experience

Work Environment

This is an open warehouse environment with exposure to various weather and temperature conditions.

Summary

The product development engineer is responsible for the creation and maintenance of all products and product lines including alloy cored wire (ACW), hot extruded wire (HEW), and rolling, drawing, and abrading (RDA). This includes technology for formulations and extrusion parameters as well as forming, fabricating, and packaging all product lines. This position will help investigate, address, and implement process improvements. Lastly, this position is responsible for the research and development of new materials, products, and processes.

 Essential Duties, Responsibilities, & Authorities

  • Identify and implement process improvement and new product/process initiatives
  • Perform physical and metallurgical property analysis on welding and metallurgical lab samples
  • Spearhead trials to implement process and product improvements.
  • Document results for internal process development and internal/external reports.
  • Specify extrusion parameters for HEW products
  • Communicate weld lab priorities and schedule to R&D Technician
  • Manage weld lab inventory and equipment
  • Establish and maintain ACW product formulations
  • Establish, update, and maintain part numbers and bills of materials for all product lines
  • Work with sales and end users to develop new products and provide customer support
  • Work with production to identify and implement process improvements and cost saving opportunities
  • Work with purchasing to identify, source, and qualify raw materials
  • Establish and maintain internal product and raw material specifications and procedures
  • Maintain Specification Reference Database for all items
  • Understand and follow all Polymet Quality Management System (QMS) documents

Qualifications and Requirements

 Minimum:

  • S. Degree in Engineering (Material Science, Welding, or Mechanical)
  • Ability to communicate and work with all levels within the organization
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to make decisions and problem solve independently
  • Ability to travel both nationally and internationally on average 1-2 times per year for 1-2 days at a time
  • Fully Executed Confidentiality Agreement and Restrictive Covenants

Preferred:

  • 1-2 Experience with welding, welding procedures or welding metallurgy
  • 2+ Product development experience

Work Environment

The Product Development Engineer will be working in a typical office environment, with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse conditions with some time spent in an open warehouse environment with exposure to various weather and temperature conditions.
